Controlling Our Trauma To Serve (COTTS)

Ouch My Trauma Hurts (OMTH)

Can we Control Our Trauma To Serve (COTTS) our country?

One trauma symptom is AVOIDANCE. We may stop watching the news on television and social media because it makes us anxious. It’s hard to sleep. Getting help from a trauma-informed therapist would be great!

What if you listened to a caring news-sharer like Aaron Parnas on social media? And you could google “Indivisible” (a media site that describes events to help your country) for a relaxing-sounding event, like a meeting at a pub. And might you invite a friend?

Others are struggling, too. Taking an action can decrease anxiety and touching hope can be a real uplifting experience.

One trauma symptom is feeling HOPELESS. We may not see a way for things to get better. It may be hard to get up in the morning and difficult to go to sleep at night. We can eat too much or too little. Alcohol or drugs may be used for self-medicating. Getting help from a trauma-informed therapist would be great!

What if you googled “Indivisible” (a media site that describes events to help your country) for an easy-sounding event near you and went to one seeking hope? Others are struggling, too. Touching hope can be a real uplifting experience.

Huge ANXIETY is one trauma symptom. We may try to push the anxiety down with avoidance of news and use of some self-medicating or self-comforting behaviors: Too much sleep or food- too little of both, avoiding conversations about politics and our financial suffering, moral injury (guilt, shame, sorrow) about the harsh deportation of so many. Getting help from a trauma-informed therapist would be great!
