Ouch My Trauma Hurts (OMTH)
One trauma symptom is HYPERVIGILANCE where we are jumpy and anxious so the temptation may be to avoid going to meetings. Self-nourishment is so important, like good meals and caring friends! Deep breathing exercises can help our anxiety, so can encouraging ourselves to attend a meeting where people are making plans to help our country.
The shadow in this picture is like the feeling of hopelessness when trauma grabs us. It invades our thinking and feelings, making problem solving and creating ideas difficult. Joining with others in efforts that feel comfortable to us can revive our sense of hope. We can get ideas from “Indivisible” a website sharing activities to help our country.
Trauma can feel like an unseen hurtle. Trauma can paralyze our thinking and actions. And trauma-informed therapy can then be helpful. Freezing with inaction can be a symptom of trauma. Finding small ways to help our country (like being in a group that writes post cards to voters) this can get us started and thaw the freeze.
