Ouch My Trauma Hurts (OMTH)
Blooming and peacefulness come in many forms. They can both prevent and soothe trauma. It is hard to feel peaceful and anxious at the same time. That’s why many of us like to make plans for how to deal with an anticipated upcoming traumatic event- so we feel a sense of being able to handle it. And it is fun to have favorite places to visit and see, flowers or scientific exhibits, animals or plants on walks, drama or puppetry arts to enjoy, get-togethers with friends- can all be sources of comfort. Because traumatic events make us feel so uneasy and uncomfortable, taking actions to prevent, stop, or improve these event for ourselves and others can leave us with hope, rather than helplessness, determination rather than despair.
Hope is so very important in life. And what we choose to comfort ourselves with is a big choice. Unprescribed drugs, under or over-eating, alcohol, cutting ourselves, are all choices that are not likely to lead to long-lasting comfort and peace. May traumatic events lead to our searching for coping ideas that include feelings of peace, accomplishment, new discoveries, and safe relationships! Here is Dr Marti wishing you peace and coping and success!
